Our History

Everlasting Fence Company was founded by Michael J. Hensley in March 1980. What started as a small operation out of a pickup truck in Glenside, PA, quickly grew into a thriving business known for its commitment to customer satisfaction and quality craftsmanship. Mike’s vision was to create a company that would always be there for its customers, providing service long after the installation was complete. This philosophy is what inspired the name “Everlasting Fence Company.”

By 1983, the company had expanded to include a full-time secretary and moved into rented office space on Easton Road. In 1986, Everlasting Fence Company relocated to a larger office with indoor storage on Glenside Avenue, allowing the business to further grow its team and capabilities. With the addition of Mike’s brother Bob and long-time employee Ken Tarlo, the company continued to flourish, purchasing an 84,000 square foot lot in 1989 and moving to its current location on Limekiln Pike.

Incorporated in 1996, Everlasting Fence Company has grown year after year thanks to a strong business plan, dedicated employees, and an unwavering determination to be the best. In 2020, we purchased a new property that expanded the size of the business, allowing us to build a new, state-of-the-art woodshop and significantly increase our indoor storage. This expansion supports Everlasting’s continued growth.

Our success is a direct result of our commitment to customer satisfaction, ongoing research into new and proven materials, and the continuous training of our employees. Over the past 40+ years, we have built lasting relationships with our customers, vendors, and employees, creating a legacy of excellence in the fence industry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose Everlasting Fence Company?

We know that you have choices when it comes to your fence project. Choosing Everlasting Fence Company means choosing a partner dedicated to your satisfaction. Our expertise, commitment to quality, and customer-first approach set us apart from other fence installers. We offer only the highest quality products and services, ensuring that our customers receive the perfect fence for their needs.

Do I need a permit?

Every municipality has its own building code, and our knowledgeable team can guide you through the basics of most codes. In general, the highest residential fencing allowed is 6’ high, but it is typically only allowed in backyards, with 4’ being the tallest fence allowed in front yards. If you’d like help obtaining a permit, we offer a permit service where we apply and obtain the permit for you.

Do you only offer installation services?

No! We offer fence repair, maintenance, and restoration services, as well as DIY fencing supplies for homeowners, contractors, landscapers, and anyone else in need of DIY supplies. Our expert office staff can help you find the right product for your project and provide tips on how to install it. We also offer wholesale accounts for start-up companies.

Do you offer anything besides fencing?

Yes! In addition to quality custom fencing, we also offer custom gate design and installation, deck and stair railings, arbors, trellises, cedar planters, and more for residential, commercial, and industrial properties. When it comes to outdoor living or perimeter security structures, we can do it all.

Do you do commercial work as well?

Yes, Everlasting Fence Company maintains relationships with large and small building companies and general contracting firms to provide our services to commercial, industrial, and professional clients. We work on union and prevailing wage sites and open shop labor projects.

Do I have to be present during installation?

It is necessary that you meet with our foreman before we begin work and remain easily accessible for the duration of the installation, preferably on site. This allows you to make the best decision if any issues arise.

Do you concrete the posts?

It is dependent on the fence we are installing. Chain link, vinyl, aluminum, and steel fence posts all have a wet concrete footer. Wooden gateposts can require the added strength of a wet concrete footer; however, placing a wooden post in a concrete footer will trap moisture by restricting drainage, and the post will rot at ground level. We tamp alternating layers of backfill and dry concrete mix. The result is a tight footer around the post that will allow drainage and prevent warping.

Can you keep the top of the fence level?

This is material dependent. Level and straight are not the same thing. We prefer to follow the ground contour, keeping the top of the fence as straight as the terrain will allow. If you prefer a leveled look, the panels can be stepped, but this can cause higher gaps at the bottom. Our experts will help you make an informed decision.

How high can the fence be?

Generally, the municipalities in the Philadelphia area limit the height of residential fences to 6’ high in the back of the house and 4’ high in the front. If our estimator suspects a problem, he will recommend that you check with the local Zoning Department. We are not responsible for zoning violations if the customer does not secure the requisite permit.

Should the fence be treated?

Exposure to nature’s elements rots wood. Any commercial wood treatment will slow nature’s course. Our primary wood fence material is western red cedar, which is naturally resistant to rot. Ask our sales representatives about our staining services and how they can extend the life of your fence.

How long does a wooden fence last?

The climate, exposure to the sun and wind, the water table, and the insect population will impact the life expectancy of a wood fence. The average lifespan of a western red cedar is about 15 – 20 years, but that can be extended with proper upkeep and fence maintenance.

What kind of guarantee do you give?

Our name is our most valuable asset, and we stand behind our work. Complaints are handled on an individual basis, and all cases of defective workmanship are corrected free of charge. Our workmanship warranty is for a five-year period. Product guarantees are dependent upon the material and manufacturer selected.

Founded on family values

Everlasting Fence Company is a family-owned business established in 1980. As a full-service fence company, we are fully insured and bondable, providing both Union and Open Shop work. Our facility is located in Glenside, PA, and we serve the tri-state area for industrial, commercial, and residential fence installations. We also maintain an extensive inventory of fence products for retail sales.

Our team possesses the skill, knowledge, and experience to serve all your fencing needs. We provide all the information and support required to make a knowledgeable decision regarding an investment that can truly showcase a business or a home, from a purely ornamental accent piece to a full-scale, automated perimeter security system.

At Everlasting Fence Company, our installers are paid by the hour and take pride in their work. We do not employ subcontractors or pay piecework wages to employees who rush to “put up” fences for payday. This employment policy guarantees our stringent quality control standards and sets our company apart from other fence installation outfits.

We are a small, close-knit organization with the ability to custom design, manufacture, and expedite the installation of all fence systems. Our dedication and pride are the reasons we remain unsurpassed in the fence industry.

We look forward to designing, installing, and maintaining your perfect fence!
